The Wings of the Morning can be found on ; Sounds of Wood and Steel 2 from Windham Hill Collection. It is one of the many incredible compositions by fingerstyle virtuoso Doyle Dykes who learned his trade from the great pickers like Merle Travis and Chet Atkins. Trying to imitate Doyle has improved my playing by probably 110% and this is just one of the pieces that I've spent weeks on trying to play as close as possible to his original score. It is of course impossible to play it like Doyle does unless you have skills like Tommy Emmanuel or Martin Taylor, but I tabbed it out with a few adjustments that make it a little easier to get all the way through. The lead riff in the middle is as close as I could get it and should be played as fast as possible. The last two sections of tremelos in frets 10 & 12 at the end of the piece have a lot of harmonics that are so complex I completely left them out. I just couldn't get my right hand to manufacture the harmonics all the way up into the sound hole while picking the quick tremelos with the remaining three fingers ! You can try it with the notes printed and see if you can manage it - I may give it another try in the future. - Harmoncs in the middle are marked with a v . Heres the chord shape that's used to play that beautiful finish starting at fret 5 and going to 7 , 8, 10 , and finally 12. - starting on High E - 5*5*7*4 it stays the same to the end at 12 when your hand has just about had enough !
